Have you got a pet emergency? Perhaps you’re just preparing in case an accident happens. Either way, you’ve come to the right place.
If your pet is unwell or injured, please phone us on 07 4015 3549 immediately.
Our emergency vets and qualified veterinary nurses are onsite and ready to help with all manner of pet emergencies including dog bites, wounds, accidents and injuries, trauma, seizures, snake bites, cane toad toxicity, vomiting and diarrhoea, odd behaviour and even those itchy dogs & cats who can’t get to sleep at night.
If you suspect your pet has been exposed to something poisonous or toxic, we can provide emergency treatment and decontamination. You can also call the Australian Animal Poisons Helpline on 1300 869 738 for phone advice.
We treat all medical issues in dogs and cats including fever, urinary infections and obstructions, vomiting and diarrhea, kidney failure, liver failure infections, cancer, wounds and many more.
Advanced medical procedures such as endoscopy, cerebrospinal fluid sampling (CSF taps) are available, plus plenty more.
Some veterinary emergencies can only be solved by surgery. Our team is experienced with a range of surgical procedures including abdominal procedures like exploratory laparotomy for gastrointestinal foreign bodies or obstruction, cystotomy, Caesarian section, gastropexy & correction of gastric dilatation & volvulus (GDV). These are the most common ones, but there are pleny more. Our surgeons are also skilled at wound reconstruction and treating animal bite wounds.
Many of our hospital inpatients arrive as transfers from other vet clinics in FNQ – when your vet goes home for the night, we can take over hospital care so that your pet gets the treatment they need. With 24/7 staffing, pets are never left unattended in our hospital.
Ask your vet if your pet should be transferred for overnight care.
Our purpose-built hospital offers advanced life support equipment including a range of drips and IV fluid pumps, syringe drivers, anaesthetic machines and mechanical ventilators.
We can monitor pulse, respiratory rate, body temperature, oxygen saturation (SPO2) blood pressure, electrogardiogram (ECG) activity, end tidal carbon dioxide (ETC02), venous and arterial blood gases, and much more.
We also have high quality digital imaging at our fingertips including xray, endoscopy, ultrasound and our dedicated CT (computed tomography) facility. It’s the only one in far north Queensland.
We regularly host visiting surgeons from the Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) on the Sunshine Coast.
We are proud to welcome specialist surgeons Dr Nima Nakahara and Dr Warrick Bruce, as well as
surgical registrars Dr Daniel McDonald and Dr Waylon Wiseman as they provide specialist level surgical services in Cairns, including orthopaedics and soft tissue procedures.
