Cairns Emergency Vets 24/7 are passionate about animals, delivering emergency and critical care services with professionalism and compassion. Our hospital was established to provide Cairns pet owners with access to quality, emergency medical support, 24/7. We’re located at 124 Anderson Street in Cairns and are proud to provide the after-hours and emergency work, for almost all clinics in the greater Cairns region. We love to work in collaboration with Cairns’ amazing GP vets and our emergency services allow them to get some rest, without compromise on patient and pet care. We’re available for walk-ins and referrals. Contact us on (07) 4015 3459.
Cairns Emergency Vets 24/7 is open for emergencies. We aren’t on call. Our hospital is open and manned by trained vets and nurses, every hour, of every day. In fact, we’re the only 24/7 animal hospital in FNQ and we’re proud to care for animals and their owners, from across the city and region.
Our team are here for those unexpected events. We concentrate on emergency and critical care, rather than routine procedures like vaccinations and other preventatives, such as tick prevention, heart worm treatments and other routine appointments. So please see your regular vet for those requirements.
We work in collaboration with a range of Cairns’ GP vets to provide after hours service and care, as well as support with overflow appointments, during peak periods. So, if you can’t get in to see them or want to be seen straight away, we’re always here.
At Emergency Vets 24/7, we’re huge advocates for pet insurance. Why? Like humans, medical care especially when it’s for emergency or critical care scenarios, can be expensive. That’s because of the equipment, the medicines which aren’t subsidized by anyone and of course, the cost of having professional staff available 24/7.
Please note pet insurance won’t cover pre-existing conditions, so it’s better to get in early. However, if you don’t have pet insurance, we do partner with two credit providing companies Zippay and Vetpay, for your convenience. You can apply for a pre-approved account in minutes via your smartphone or home computer, with approval usually finalised within 10-minutes.
Please note interest may apply for finance, so check terms and conditions and FAQs, to decide which option is better for you.
Our pup got sick on a Sunday and these guys were amazing. You can call them any time just to check whether you should come in/ what you should do, and they were fantastic when we did. Highly professional, knowledgeable and gave excellent treatment. We highly recommend this place for after-hours!
We're very lucky to have a 24 vet service in Cairns. Our cat had to make an emergency visit and her life was saved. All costs were explained up front and there was no pressure. Just professional emergency support. Thanks to the awesome team - Amber owes you her life!
Thank God for a 24-hour vet in Cairns. I have used this business about 4 times. Service and staff are fantastic. Had to take my 18-year-old Toy Poodle there on Sunday night. They are so very caring. Thankfully she is good now.
I had to take my cat Socks into the Emergency Vet in the middle of the night, when he started frothing at the mouth. The vet performed blood tests and determined Socks was not seriously ill. It is great to have this emergency vet service in Cairns.
Best vet experience in Cairns! Thank you all, and mostly to Nat(s), Chelsea, Kat, Livy, Olivia, Nikea, Becky, Sandra, Francis, Alice, Peta, Tash, Kati and the tall vet with back pain who talks fast (Richard?). Keep up the good work!!! You are amazing guys!
We had to take our dog in for some after-hours treatment and couldn't be happier. We went straight in and had a full look over and bloods done. Had the results and treatment sorted within an hour. They even followed up a couple of days later to see how he was going. Great work team... Neo was very appreciative.
Highly recommend Dr Richard and his staff! Looked after my kitten Avril and went above and beyond for her. Very good at what they do and listen to you, can’t go wrong! Extremely well priced as well!
Fantastic staff especially Becky, just really made us feel comfortable although we were stressed about our boy. Great setup and animal friendly. Vet Katie was also exceptional and full of information, love you guys glad you have opened and best wishes. Sure you will succeed. Thanks again.
We are very lucky to have such a fantastic vet practice in Cairns. I highly recommend this practice. Richard and his team cared for our dog Shiraz during a very difficult time. All the staff provided the best care, were results driven, attentive and empathetic. Thank you to the whole team for such a wonderful experience.
Thanks again so much for all the help you have given me over the last few months! As a fellow veterinarian I value your service so much, both for referral after hours and for my own babies when I need 24hr care and need sleep!
Called for some advice on heat stroke / dehydration for my dog and had the pleasure of speaking with Melissa who was extremely helpful and caring, great advice given, can't recommend this vet enough.
A massive thank you from the bottom of our hearts for providing prompt care, love and support for not only our big gorgeous fur baby Jaxon, but for his family also. We can't thank you enough for your time and effort.
We had brought in our English Springer spaniel last night to the 24 hr emergency. I can't recommend them enough. From the moment we arrived the staff were very caring and talked to us step by step on what treatment they were planning to do. Marion our vet was great thankyou everyone for taking good care of our Barney Boo.
Thank you so much for the care you gave Zeb over the weekend and for being so understanding of our position offering a solution - the tick has not won - Zebby Boy is recovering beautifully and even cuddling his fur siblings again oh and purring away. Thank you.
I could not be more thankful and appreciative to the team at Emergency Vets! The Vets & Vet Nurses worked day and night on our Bundy boy who was baited with rat bait. We are so grateful for the hard work and dedication that was put into saving his life and allowing him to see another day. There aren’t enough words to say how thankful we are.

Took our boxer pup Loki in for a late night visit. He decided to eat a bee or something and ended with a nice fat lip and hives all over. Having been through this before, I knew we were off to the vet. So I loaded him up and took him into see the team at Emergency Vets. I got a wonderful greeting when I arrived by nurse Livvy. She checked us in efficiently and gave Loki the once over before sending in Jo the vet. She ran through the treatment with me before taking him for an antihistamine shot. From start to finish everyone was smiling and wonderful to deal with. Loki even had great fun playing with all the nurses out the back, he was a happy boy when we left. Definitely recommend.

We had an emergency last night, after calling numerous vets and not getting much help, we found emergency 24/7 when we rang, we spoke to Richard who spoke to us in a calming understanding manner and gave us so much advice on what to do with our dog, and we find out they aren't even open for business yet......so thank you Richard and emergency 24/7 patient doing much better, good luck and again thank you.
Dr Richard is an amazing vet!!! Our poor boy broke his leg late on Friday night, Dr Richard was the only vet we spoke to who was willing to help on a weekend!! Service and care for our little Ozzie cat was amazing!!! Even after his surgery on Saturday Dr Richard put up with and answered my probably annoying texts and put my mind at ease!! I can not recommend 24hr Vets enough!! And our little Ozzie is on the mend thanks you Richard!!
Just want to say a huge Thank you to staff last night who made my sister’s cat end of life journey such a lovely one. This business was not all about the money it was 100% about the care of the animal. We were not rushed in and out of a room. We did not have to make quick decision. Each step was explained with love and my sister was given the time to process each move. It really was a beautiful end of life journey for a very well-loved 19-year-old cat. Thanks again for not making her rush the decision. For doing the fastest blood tests to determine it was time and for all your compassion. They even helped to arrange the pick up for cremation. Great service.
Brought my very much-loved baby/dog into the clinic tonight, as I was worried he had eaten rat bait or possibly had Lepto. The team was super lovely and caring, they were very knowledgeable and prices were great! Very happy! Even though my pup isn’t out of the woods, yet I wouldn’t hesitate to take him back there as they seem to know exactly what they are doing and you can tell they have love animals thanks guys!
